What We Love
When we used to visit Vito, we would bring him flowers, cheesecake, some marzipan, and sit at the table together enjoying them. One time he said, “I don’t have any vases, go use the empty salsa jar in the kitchen,” and so we filled the empty, rinsed salsa jar with flowers and teased him gently, for Vito’s home was awash in vases. They all but burst forth from his antique armoires. Oh Vito. And so here is a flower for you, from Vito.
A charm made with solid 14k gold and flowers we found in Italy the first winter we knew Vito – and have been waiting to use ever since.
In honor of our collaboration with Vito, the Catbird Giving Fund is proud to have made a donation of $40,000 to SAGE, a national advocacy and services organization in their mission to look out for LGBTQ+ elders.

DesignerVito Giallo, artist, illustrator and antiques dealer, was Andy Warhol’s first apprentice and the first to give Warhol a show in 1954. Vito’s antiques shop across from the Carlyle at 966 Madison Avenue was a destination for Mark Rothko, André Leon Talley, Jackie Kennedy, and Andy – who visited every day. In 1969, Vito came into possession of a trunk full of gems, and other than selling a few to Andy, he saved them since then. 53 years later, we were so proud to present Catbird x Vito’s Gems.
