Catbird is a small world shaped by jewelry, stories, friendships, creativity, and the unmistakable spirit of New York. Since opening in Williamsburg in 2004, Catbird has grown from a tiny neighborhood shop into a beloved fine jewelry destination while staying rooted in the intimate, personal feeling that inspired it from the beginning. Our jewelry is created for everyday life, designed to become part of the wearer’s own story rather than simply marking a special occasion. Delicate pieces are made to be worn alone, layered together, stacked over time, and collected as memories grow.
Our approach to jewelry is deeply connected to the city around us. New York has always provided endless inspiration, from independent films and favorite novels to neighborhood bakeries, long walks, rainy streets, familiar faces, music, art, and the quiet details of everyday life. Catbird’s creative perspective celebrates the beauty found in ordinary moments and transforms those impressions into jewelry with a distinctly personal character. Each collection reflects a love of individuality, craftsmanship, and the emotional connections that make certain objects meaningful.
Our jewelry is designed in our Brooklyn studio and made with a strong commitment to responsible craftsmanship. Sustainability has been part of Catbird’s identity since the beginning, rather than an idea added later. More than 95% of our gold is recycled solid gold, and we also work with recycled diamonds and carefully considered gemstones. By creating our jewelry under one roof in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, our team remains closely connected throughout the design and production process while maintaining high standards for quality and craftsmanship. Our packaging is FSC certified, and we continue to look for thoughtful ways to reduce our environmental impact.
Jewelry, for us, is more than an accessory. It can become a quiet reminder of a person, a place, a relationship, or a particular moment in time. A ring may become part of a family story. A pair of earrings may recall a first trip to New York. A delicate necklace might be worn every day until it feels inseparable from its owner. This idea of jewelry as something personal and lasting has remained at the heart of Catbird for more than two decades.
Our story began with a small shop in Williamsburg, but the spirit behind it has continued to evolve. Catbird helped introduce a more relaxed way of thinking about fine jewelry, encouraging people to wear precious pieces every day rather than saving them exclusively for formal occasions. Layering, stacking, mixing delicate designs, and creating combinations that feel completely individual have become central to the Catbird aesthetic. The result is jewelry that feels intimate, effortless, and expressive.
Giving back is another important part of our world. Since the earliest days of Catbird, a portion of sales has supported nonprofit organizations whose work reflects our values. Through the Catbird Giving Fund, we support causes focused on equality, community, and helping others. What began as a simple commitment has grown into a meaningful collective effort, made possible by the people who choose to shop with us. Every purchase becomes an opportunity to contribute to something beyond the jewelry itself.
The world of Catbird also extends beyond collections and studio work. It is a moodboard filled with the things that inspire us, from vintage-inspired nightgowns and carefully selected playlists to unusual beauty products, favorite books, classic New York treats, independent publications, and unexpected objects. We are drawn to things that have personality and a sense of history. A book by Zadie Smith, a Paris Review issue, a piece of jewelry inspired by a fairy tale, or a beautifully designed everyday object can all exist within the same creative universe.
At the center of everything are the people who make Catbird what it is. We have always loved hearing from our customers and learning about the experiences connected to the jewelry they choose. Letters, emails, personal notes, and stories have become part of the fabric of our offices and our history. Since 2004, these messages have reminded us that jewelry carries meaning far beyond its material value.
Catbird is ultimately a celebration of love in its many forms: love for jewelry, for creativity, for New York, for sustainability, for friendship, for community, and for the small details that make everyday life memorable. Our pieces are designed to live with you, change with you, and gather meaning over time. From a tiny Williamsburg shop to a creative community reaching far beyond Brooklyn, Catbird continues to create jewelry as an expression of the places, people, stories, and moments we never want to forget.
